Op maandag 10 april zijn de huizen van Anti Imperialist Action Ireland activisten binnengevallen door de Ierse politie. Minstens twee kameraden en één familielid zijn gearresteerd. Al hun elektronische apparaten en politieke literatuur zijn in beslag genomen. Sinds 13 april zijn alle arrestanten vrijgelaten. Revolutionaire Eenheid is solidair met de activisten van Anti Imperialist Action Ireland en sluit zich aan bij de oproep voor het intrekken van alle aanklachten tegen hen en het stoppen van de aanvallen en repressie tegen Ierse Republikeinse activisten in heel Ierland.
De arrestaties volgen nadat AIA Ireland afgelopen weekend een succesvolle herdenking organiseerde van de Paasopstand (“Easter Rising”) in 1916. Tijdens deze opstand veroverde de Ierse bevrijdingsbeweging sleutelposities in het land en werd de Ierse Republiek uitgeroepen. Deze herdenking is vooral relevant omdat het doel van de Paasopstand, de bevrijding van Ierland van koloniale overheersing, nog steeds niet is voltooid. In 1921 werd Ierland door het Britse parlement opgedeeld tussen de (op papier) onafhankelijke Republiek in het Zuiden en Noord-Ierland dat onderdeel bleef van het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Deze opsplitsing van Ierland bestaat tot op de dag van vandaag.
Organisaties en activisten die zich inzetten voor Ierse bevrijding en unificatie worden regelmatig aangevallen door de Ierse “Free State” politie in de zuidelijke Republiek, of de Britse politie in het Noorden. Er zijn tientallen politieke gevangenen die al jaren of decennia vastzitten voor hun bijdrage aan deze bevrijdingsstrijd.
Deze week werd ook in Derry, een historisch bastion van Ierse Republikeinen, een herdenkingsmars voor de Paasopstand verboden. Ondanks politierepressie ging de mars door, en gingen jongeren de confrontatie aan met de politie.
De arrestaties van AIA Ireland activisten houden ook verband met de protesten tegen de komst van de Amerikaanse president Joe Biden naar Ierland afgelopen week. Een van de doelen van Biden’s bezoek is om Ierland in te lijven in de NAVO, iets waar de meerderheid van de Ierse bevolking tegen is.
Als Revolutionaire Eenheid eisen we dat alle aanklachten tegen Anti Imperialist Action Ireland worden ingetrokken en staan we zij-aan-zij met onze Ierse kameraden die binnen en buiten de gevangenis strijden tegen kolonialisme, imperialisme en kapitalisme. We sluiten ons aan bij de oproep voor onmiddellijke vrijlating van alle Ierse Republikeinse gevangenen.
Als revolutionaire organisatie in Nederland vinden we het belangrijk om aandacht te besteden aan de revolutionaire strijd overal ter wereld, en dus ook in Europa. In meerdere landen zijn bijvoorbeeld revolutionaire politieke gevangenen, waaronder in Ierland, Frankrijk, Duitsland en Italië. Dit zijn communisten, anarchisten en internationale vrijheidsstrijders die een onderdeel vormen van de revolutionaire voorhoede op ons continent.

Solidarity with arrested activists of Anti Imperialist Action Ireland!
On Monday 10 April, the homes of Anti Imperialist Action Ireland activists were raided by Irish police. At least two comrades and one family member were arrested. All their electronic devices and political literature have been confiscated. As of April 13, all detainees have been released. As Revolutionaire Eenheid, we stand in solidarity with the Anti Imperialist Action Ireland activists and we join the call to drop all charges against them and to make an end to the attacks and repression against Irish Republican activists across Ireland.
The arrests follow after AIA Ireland organized a successful commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising last weekend. During this uprising, the Irish liberation movement conquered key positions in the country and proclaimed the Irish Republic. This commemoration is especially relevant because the goal of the Easter Rising, the liberation of Ireland from colonial rule, has still not been completed. In 1921, Ireland was divided by the British Parliament between the (nominal) independent Republic in the South and Northern Ireland, which remained part of the United Kingdom. This division of Ireland persists to this day.
Organizations and activists working for Irish liberation and unification are regularly attacked by the Irish Free State Police in the Southern Republic, or the British Police in the North. There are dozens of political prisoners who have been imprisoned for years or decades for their contribution to this liberation struggle.
A memorial march for the Easter Rising in Derry was also banned this week, a historic bastion of Irish Republicans. Despite police repression, the march continued, and youth confronted the police.
The arrests of AIA Ireland activists are also linked to the protests against US President Joe Biden’s visit to Ireland last week. One of the goals of Biden’s visit is to integrate Ireland into NATO, something that the majority of Irish people oppose.
As Revolutionaire Eenheid, we join the call to drop all charges against Anti Imperialist Action Ireland and we reiterate our support for all Irish people and comrades that are struggling against colonialism, imperialism and capitalism. We join the call for the immediate release of all Irish Republican prisoners.
As a revolutionary organization in the Netherlands, we believe it is important to pay attention to the revolutionary struggle all over the world, also in Europe. There are for example revolutionary political prisoners in several countries, including Ireland, France, Germany and Italy. These are communists, anarchists and international freedom fighters who form part of the revolutionary vanguard on our continent.
