Op maandag 1 juli werd Hadeel Shatara door de bezettingsmacht gevangengenomen toen zij vanuit Jordanië terugkeerde naar Palestina via de Karameh-grens. Ze is docent en coördinator van het graduate programma aan de Birzeit Universiteit. Haar arrestatie is onderdeel van de grote aanvallen op universiteiten in heel Palestina, die sinds oktober enorm zijn geïntensiveerd. Terwijl de bezetting een genocide pleegt in Gaza zijn vele honderden studenten op de Westelijke Jordaanoever herhaaldelijk gearresteerd en velen van hen zijn in administratieve detentie gehouden, zonder aanklacht of proces op basis van geheim bewijsmateriaal. Deze agressieve campagne tegen het onderwijs en de studenten heeft ertoe geleid dat alle universiteiten in Gaza zijn gebombardeerd tijdens de negen maanden durende genocidale aanval door de zionistische bezettingsmacht.
Revolutionaire Eenheid roept op tot de onmiddellijke vrijlating van Hadeel Shatara en alle Palestijnse politieke gevangenen. Politiek gevangenschap is een repressief koloniaal instrument, dat begon onder het Britse Mandaat in Palestina. Politieke gevangenen zijn arbeiders en boeren, jongeren en studenten, mannen en vrouwen, allen die gemist worden door hun families en gemeenschappen. Het zijn activisten die in de frontlinie staan bij het beschermen van hun gemeenschappen tegen de alliantie van de VS, Israël en de EU, die een genocide pleegt in Gaza en op de Westelijke Jordaanoever duizenden Palestijnen heeft vermoord en gearresteerd.
Vandaag zouden we Hadeel een gelukkige verjaardag moeten wensen, maar in plaats daarvan bevindt ze zich op een onbekende locatie, waar haar de toegang tot haar advocaat wordt ontzegd en haar familie geen informatie over haar zaak heeft gekregen. Hadeel is een fervent pleitbezorger voor Palestijnse studenten en is zeer geliefd in haar gemeenschap. Haar arrestatie berooft hen van de zorg en ondersteuning die zij biedt aan studenten onder bezetting. Met deze systematisch aanvallen op studenten, docenten en universiteitsbestuurders probeert de bezetting het universitaire leven in Palestina te ontregelen.
Nu we de zomerperiode ingaan na wekenlange studentenkampen in heel Nederland, Europa en de wereld, roepen we de studentenbeweging op om de betrekkingen met de studentenbeweging in Palestina te versterken en de namen van studentengevangenen te propageren, terwijl we doorgaan met de strijd voor een academische boycot van alle Israëlische universiteiten. We roepen ook op tot de vrijlating van alle studentengevangenen van de internationale intifada – degenen die gevangen zitten omdat ze moedig opstaan tegen de koloniale academische instellingen die de bezetting ondersteunen in haar misdaden tegen het Palestijnse volk.
Revolutionaire Eenheid roept op tot de breedste campagne voor de bevrijding van Hadeel Shatara en alle Palestijnse politieke gevangenen. En terwijl de gevangenen hun strijd voortzetten, gaan wij door in de geest van de studentenintifada tot aan de bevrijding van Palestina van de rivier tot aan de zee en het recht op terugkeer voor alle Palestijnse vluchtelingen.

Revolutionaire Eenheid joins the call to free Hadeel Shatara and all Palestinian prisoners!
On Monday 1 July, Hadeel Shatara was seized by occupation forces when crossing the Karameh border returning to Palestine from Jordan. She is an educator and university administrator working at Birzeit University. Her arrest is part of the broad attacks on universities across Palestine, which has vastly intensified since October. While the occupation is committing a genocide in Gaza, hundreds upon hundreds of students in the West Bank have been repetitively arrested with many of them held under administrative detention, without charge or trial on the basis of secret evidence. This brutal campaign against education and students has seen all the universities in Gaza bombed during the nine month genocidal assault by the Zionist occupation forces.
Revolutionaire Eenheid calls for the immediate release of Hadeel Shatara and all Palestinian political prisoners. Political imprisonment is a repressive colonial tool, which started under the British Mandate in Palestine. Political prisoners are workers and farmers, youth and students, men and women, all who are being missed by their families and communities. They are activists in the frontline of protecting their communities against the alliance of the US, Israel and the EU, that is committing a genocide in Gaza and mass-killing and arresting Palestinians in the West Bank.
Today we should be wishing Hadeel a happy birthday but instead she is in an unknown location, denied access to her lawyer with no information given to her family about her case. Hadeel is a fierce advocate for the students in her university and much loved in her community. Her arrest robs them of the care and support she provides in a student life under occupation. The systematic targeting of student leaders, teachers and university administrators leaves ruptures in the education system and university life.
As we enter the summer period after weeks of student encampments across the Netherlands, we call on the student movement to deepen relations with the student movement in Palestine and raise the names of student prisoners as we struggle for an academic boycott of all Israeli universities. We also call for the release of all student prisoners of the international intifada – those who are imprisoned for bravely standing up against the colonial state institutions that aid the occupation and its crimes against the Palestinian people.
Revolutionaire Eenheid calls for the broadest campaign for the liberation of Hadeel Shatara and all Palestinian political prisoners. And as the prisoners continue their struggle, we also continue with the spirit of the student intifada until the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea and the right of return for all Palestinian refugees.
