Op zaterdagochtend 7 oktober lanceerde het Palestijnse verzet de grootschalige bevrijdingsoperatie “Al-Aqsa Storm.” In een alomvattend offensief werd vanuit Gaza de grens doorbroken over land en door de lucht, werd Palestijns grondgebied terugveroverd, zijn tientallen kolonisten en bezettingssoldaten gegijzeld en duizenden raketten afgevuurd. Als Revolutionaire Eenheid salueren we het dappere Palestijnse volk en hun verzet, die al meer dan een eeuw lijden onder zionistisch kolonialisme en strijden voor de bevrijding van Palestina van de rivier tot aan de zee en het recht op terugkeer voor alle Palestijnse vluchtelingen.
De operatie werd zaterdagochtend aangekondigd door Mohammed Deif, opperbevelhebber van de gewapende tak van Hamas, de Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades en kwam voor velen als een verassing. De schaal van de Al-Aqsa Storm operatie is ongekend in de geschiedenis van de Palestijnse bevrijdingsstrijd, en komt op een moment dat Israël in diepe politieke en maatschappelijke crisis verkeert. Het laat zien dat Israël niet onaantastbaar is, en dat Palestijnen de realiteit kunnen veranderen, ook al worden ze vaak afgeschilderd als weerloze slachtoffers.
Desondanks maken wij ons geen illusies dat Palestina morgen bevrijdt zal zijn. We zien de genocidale retoriek van zionistische politici zowel binnen als buiten Palestina toenemen. Zij spreken over de “totale vernietiging van Gaza.” Israël voert zware bombardementen uit op woonwijken, ziekenhuizen, overheidsgebouwen en scholen in Gaza. Internationaal verboden wapens zoals wit-fosforgas worden ingezet door de bezetting in een poging om het verzet en de wil van het Palestijnse volk te breken. Dit alles wordt gesteund door Westers imperialisme, de Verenigde Staten, Europese Unie, en dus ook Nederland.
Daarom roepen we alle progressieve, linkse en revolutionaire organisaties en kameraden op om solidair te staan met het Palestijnse volk en hun verzet in alle vormen, waaronder het gewapend verzet, en om alle steun vanuit Nederland voor de zionistische kolonisatie van Palestina af te breken. De Palestijnse bevrijdingsbeweging is een voorhoede van de internationale revolutionaire beweging die strijd voor nationale bevrijding en socialisme. En de bevrijding van Palestina zal een overwinning zijn voor alle volkeren van de wereld.
Omdat het zionisme een internationale beweging is, begonnen in koloniaal Europa, bevind deze zich ook in Nederland. Nu meer dan ooit hebben wij in Nederland de taak om te strijden tegen de zionistische retoriek van politici en de media, om de boycotbeweging verder op te bouwen en uit alle macht te mobiliseren voor de bevrijding van Palestina van de rivier tot aan de zee en het recht op terugkeer voor alle Palestijnse vluchtelingen.
De geschiedenis van Gaza is die van verzet en opoffering. In 2005 wist Gaza zich te bevrijden te zionistische kolonisatie. Zij dwongen een volledige terugtrekking van het bezettingsleger en kolonisten af. Deze eerste stap in bevrijding was alleen mogelijk door gewapend verzet. Gaza leeft sindsdien onder een totale Israëlische blokkade via land, lucht en zee. Deze blokkade uit zich in militaire basissen rondom Gaza, een vloot die vissers beschiet, een luchtmacht die dichtbevolkte woonwijken bombardeert en een grens van hekken, bewegingssensoren en drones die levensmiddelen blokkeren en niemand toestaan om over te steken naar de rest van bezet Palestina.
Na ruim 16 jaar vernedering en blokkade als collectieve straf voor de overwinning van 2005, slaat Gaza terug met operatie Al-Aqsa Storm. Militaire basissen van de bezetting zijn overrompelt, tanks vernietigd en jeeps gekaapt. Israëlische nederzettingen gebouwd op de fundamenten van etnisch gezuiverde Palestijnse dorpen zijn ingenomen. Kolonisten die in hun arrogantie vanaf de heuveltoppen juichten en toekeken wanneer woonwijken, scholen en ziekenhuizen in Gaza werden gebombardeerd, zijn verdreven.
De Al-Aqsa storm is een uiting van de wil van het Palestijnse volk om vrij te zijn en de kolonisatie de beëindigen. We weten dat ruim 80% van de Palestijnen in Gaza directe afstammelingen zijn van Palestijnen die tijdens de Nakba in 1948 met geweld verdreven zijn van hun land. Dit is het antwoord van het Palestijnse volk na eindeloze Israëlische bombardementen, moordpartijen en massa arrestaties.
We herbevestigen onze toewijding aan het bouwen van een revolutionair front dat strijd voor de bevrijding van Palestina van de rivier tot aan de zee, het recht op terugkeer voor alle Palestijnse vluchtelingen, en het Palestijnse recht op verzet. In de woorden van de martelaar Ghassan Kanafani: “De Palestijnse zaak is geen zaak voor enkel Palestijnen, maar een zaak voor elke revolutionair, waar zij ook zijn, als een zaak van de uitgebuite en onderdrukte massa’s in onze tijd.”

Revolutionaire Eenheid is actief lid van de Masar Badil – de Beweging voor het Palestijnse Alternatieve Revolutionaire Pad. Ook zijn we actief in Samidoun Palestijnse Gevangenen Solidariteitsnetwerk, waarmee de strijden voor de bevrijding van alle 5.000 Palestijnse gevangenen in bezet Palestina en daarbuiten. Zo zit in Frankrijk de revolutionaire communist Georges Ibrahim Abdallah al 40 jaar gevangen, ondanks dat hij sinds 1999 in aanmerking komt om vrijgelaten te worden. En in Nederland is op 22 juni van dit jaar de Palestijnse gemeenschapsleider Amin Abu Rashed opgepakt. Hij is verantwoordelijk voor het organiseren van humanitaire hulp aan de Palestijnse vluchtelingenkampen, en zit daarom gevangen.
The Palestinian resistance rises: for the total liberation of Palestine!
On Saturday morning, October 7, the Palestinian resistance launched the large-scale liberation operation “Al-Aqsa Flood.” In a comprehensive offensive, the Gaza border was breached by land and air, Palestinian territory was reconquered, dozens of settlers and occupying soldiers were taken hostage and thousands of rockets were fired. As Revolutionaire Eenheid, we salute the brave Palestinian people and their resistance, who have suffered under Zionist colonialism for more than a century and are fighting for the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea and the right of return for all Palestinian refugees.
The operation of Saturday was announced by Mohammed Deif, commander-in-chief of Hamas’ armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and came as a surprise to many. The scale of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation is unprecedented in the history of the Palestinian liberation struggle, and comes at a time when Israel is in deep political and social crisis. It shows that Israel is not untouchable, and that Palestinians can change reality, even though they are often portrayed as defenseless victims.
Nevertheless, we have no illusions that Palestine will be liberated tomorrow. We see the genocidal rhetoric of Zionist politicians increasing both inside and outside Palestine. They talk about the “total destruction of Gaza.” Israel carries out heavy bombing of residential areas, hospitals, government buildings and schools in Gaza. Internationally banned weapons such as white phosphorus are being deployed by the occupation in an attempt to break the resistance and will of the Palestinian people. All this is supported by Western imperialism, the United States, the European Union, and also the Netherlands.
That is why we call on all progressive, left-wing and revolutionary organizations and comrades to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their resistance in all its forms, including the armed resistance, and to cut-off all support from the Netherlands to the Zionist colonization of Palestine. The Palestinian liberation movement is a vanguard of the international revolutionary movement fighting for national liberation and socialism. And the liberation of Palestine will be a victory for all the peoples of the world.
Because Zionism is an international movement, which started in colonial Europe, it is also present in the Netherlands. Now more than ever, we in the Netherlands have the task to fight against the Zionist rhetoric of politicians and the media, to further build the boycott movement and to mobilize with all our might for the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea and the right of return for all Palestinian refugees.
Gaza’s history is one of resistance and sacrifice. In 2005, Gaza liberated itself from Zionist colonization. They forced a complete withdrawal of the occupying army and settlers. This first step in liberation was only possible through armed resistance. Gaza has been living under a total Israeli blockade by land, air and sea since then. This blockade manifests itself in military bases around Gaza, a fleet that shoots at fishermen, an air force that bombs densely populated residential areas and a border of fences, motion sensors and drones that block food supplies and allow no one to cross into the rest of occupied Palestine.
After more than 17 years of humiliation and blockade as collective punishment for the 2005 victory, Gaza is striking back through operation Al-Aqsa Flood. Military bases of the occupation have been overrun, tanks destroyed and jeeps hijacked. Israeli settlements built on the foundations of ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages have been conquered. Settlers who in their arrogance cheered from the hilltops and watched as residential areas, schools and hospitals in Gaza were bombed have been driven away.
The Al-Aqsa Flood is an expression of the will of the Palestinian people to be free and to end colonization. We know that more than 80% of Palestinians in Gaza are direct descendants of Palestinians who were forcibly expelled from their land during the Nakba in 1948. This is the response of the Palestinian people after endless Israeli bombings, massacres and mass arrests.
We reaffirm our commitment to building a revolutionary front that fights for the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea, the right of return for all Palestinian refugees, and the Palestinian right to resistance. In the words of the martyr Ghassan Kanafani: “The Palestinian cause is not a matter for Palestinians alone, but a matter for every revolutionary, wherever they are, as a matter of the exploited and oppressed masses of our time.”
Long live the Palestinian people and their struggle for return and liberation from the river to the sea!

We are also active in Samidoun Palestinian Prisoners Solidarity Network, that struggles for the liberation of all 5,000 Palestinian prisoners in occupied Palestine and beyond. In France, for example, revolutionary communist Georges Ibrahim Abdallah has been imprisoned for 40 years, despite being eligible for release since 1999. And in the Netherlands, Palestinian community leader Amin Abu Rashed was arrested on June 22 this year. He is responsible for organizing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian refugee camps, and is therefore imprisoned.
